Ballet~ Technical training develops correct posture, muscle strength, flexibility, coordination and balance. Ballet is the foundation of all dance genres. Jazz~ encompasses ballet and modern techniques to create a stylized form of movement influenced by music selection. Some styles of jazz include: Hip-Hop, Lyrical, Theatre Jazz and Funk Tap~ A style of dance aimed at developing and perfecting rhythmic sounds with the use of the tap shoe. There are multiple styles of tap dance that have progressed and changed through time. Clogging~ An American folk dance with similarities to tap. Modern~ A dance form created in the 20th century to defy the rules and technique of ballet. Today, it is become one of the world’s most popular dance forms. Choreography~ “The art of making dance.” A class that influences young choreographers to learn various choreographic techniques and create a dance based on those techniques. Pointe~ Dancers must complete several years or serious ballet training and develop strong ankles and legs. Dancers must also develop strong technique before attempting Pointe.
Class ProgressionWarm-up~ Teacher led stretching and muscle strengthening movements to prepare the dancer for class. Barre~(Ballet and Pointe) The purpose of barre work is to stretch and warm up the muscles and to attain balance and flexibility. Center~ To increase balance and flexibility away from the barre. Across the floor~ Dancers practice various combinations and technical skills, individually or in a small group. Combinations~ Dancers participate in the learning and memorization of combined steps, oftentimes to be incorporated in to a performance dance. |
